A Voice Silenced: The Irreplaceable Loss of Haniya Aslam

That was the day when the Pakistani music industry fell to its darkest days of sorrow when the news of Haniya Aslam’s death spread like wildfire on August 11, 2024. ‘Tazneen Junior’, the one half of ‘Zeb and Haniya’, had the unfortunate fate of suffering a catastrophic cardiac arrest, and the country will never be the same without her.

Well, for the unceremonious who dared to attend her shows, Haniya Aslam, a name that invoked passion, and dish, was just a singer. A very talented singer and songwriter and with the help of her cousin, Zeb Bangash, she revolutionized Pakistani music. The mixture of folklore and modern styles appeals to audiences of various ages resulting in reputation and orchestral following.

A Legacy Etched in Melody

That is why her voice is strong and at the same time soft, and so, to some extent, Haniya can carry her listeners through the different realms. She also nurtured and showered a lot of affection on ‘Zeb’ with whom she performed at Coke Studio singing ‘Chal Diye’ and ‘Paimana Bitte’ which to date the historians of music consider legendary. Unfortunately, we can’t witness Haniya singing now but at least she was a symbol of affection through her songs.
