British Tech Billionaire Vanishes After Superyacht Disaster
I stunning event occurred near the Sicilian coast on Monday 6 August 2023. A luxury superyacht owned by British tech tycoon Mike Lynch added with other passengers overturned and sunk.
The high-profile tech entrepreneur, involved in a recent legal case and most popular among computer enthusiasts was listed among the six persons who went missing after the disaster. An even more terrible ending occurred when a waterspout descended on the ship’s deck and with hurricane force turned it upside down in the water.
A Night of Terror
The attack took place early the following morning opposite the coast of Sicily, at Porticello. The superyacht they were on was called Bayesian and, at the moment of the incident, had 10 crew members and 12 guests on board. After the accident, 15 survivors were saved; Lynch’s wife and a child were among them, but the others’ fate, including Lynch’s, remains unidentified.
A High-Profile Figure
On an interesting note, Mike Lynch who is a known figure in the technology industry had recently been involved in a legal case in the United States. In June, he was cleared of fraud accusations involving the sale of his firm in computer software manufacturing, Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard. What had happened was that the event of his trial had put him back in the social spotlight again.
Search and Rescue Efforts
Since the event was in Italy Italian authorities were quick to launch a search and rescue mission. The divers and rescue groups have been combing for the missing people and the bodies of those who died in the tragedy.
